In addition to my commute to the office I drove 4 hours round trip to a job site today, and walked around for 2 hours. Was going to drive 2.5 hours to camp in the woods, but I’m done for the day.

I have little energy to drive more and no enthusiasm to gather gear, stop at the store, drive, arrive at sunset, set up camp, and manage my dog, too. So I’m relaxing with a beverage, reading Oppo posts and preparing to research SUVs for car camping, or maybe go back to looking at small RV options.

Update: Once I relaxed for a half hour I was ready to go to the woods, but would arrive even later. Maybe next weekend.

Blooming peach trees from just north of Hartsville, South Carolina, for your time.

For reference, length wise I can stretch out all the way in my 4Runner. You probably could fit a full size mattress topper in the back of it.

Also, Yogi Bear’s Honey Fried Chicken in Hartsville is absolutely amazing.

I got a sandwich at the place at McLeod's, but I'll keep that in mind for future visits.

Yeah, I've been looking at 4 runners, lot of people have made sleeping platforms for them. I struggle with the poor fuel economy, and I'm looking at the new Passport and similar cars to replace my wife's vehicle. Maybe. Got to start camping again first. Just not as comfortable on the ground any more. Getting old.

Doesn’t your wife not drive that much?

Exactly. But I'm not anticipating serious offroading, so would like better fuel economy and road manners.

Fair enough. Joking but not really, have you been inside a new Renegade or Cherokee Trailhawk? Offroad wise, that is a good bridge between those two wants.

I’m going to explore vehicles that provide about 75 inches behind the front seats (accepting that they may need to move forward a bit) to take a mattress. But I need to evaluate if I would be okay with limited height above me while sleeping.

Neat. Hopefully I’m in the mood for fried chicken if I need to go back. Kind of curious/nervous about the “chemical” added to get the flavor, but it’s not like I’d be eating it everyday, so . . .
